New 1xLSDj mix from Electric Children – Ambien

Electric Children brings us a new continuous Chiptune mix performed on a the Nintendo Gameboy. He writes:

Another 1xLSDJ Mix for you to enjoy. As the title implies, this mix is much tighter, more focused, and more coherent than the first-Like ambien for an insomniac.

And enjoy we do. Electric Children is showing us what it means to be a Video Game DJ, mixing a collection of songs on original game hardware. It’s so cool it makes me blog (no joke). Wait, that was a joke. Was it? I really blogged myself into corner here.

Dj CUTMAN – Dubstep Is Dead

I released a new mix today, originally crafted for a show with my buddies at Toats Orig. I spent this morning editing this nice little blurb on Soundcloud, so a little copy/paste action should let you know how I’m feeling >;]

Dubstep Is Dead is meant to be a eulogy for the classic meaning of the word Dubstep; a genre that got its start with underground garage mixes in the UK. This mix comprises of the tracks and artists that I believe have taken the genre to new places, incorporating elements of progressive house, electro, chiptune and tech. This is not to say that dubstep itself is gone from this planet forever, but rather it has risen like a Phoenix… here to destroy us all.

Released on Halloween 2011, a one year anniversary of live dubstep mixing for me. I hope you’ve enjoyed all the MIXES thus far. A big, big thank you to all the artists, blogs, and labels who’ve provided me with the music I spin, this is truly a team effort.

As a way to say thank-you, I’ve posted a complete tracklist with links to the artist’s Soundcloud pages and download locations for all of the tracks (many of them available for free).

DJ Nerd42 – Deltron 3742

Deltron 3742 is a sequel to DJ Nerd42’s “Chrono Tied” (2009) which combines the lyrics of Deltron 3030 (2000) over beats made from sampling the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack. (1997) The album explores the concept of a dystopian future (much like the game does) from the point of view of an underground resistance fighter named Deltron Zero. (portrayed by
Del tha Funkee Homosapien)

The album was produced by DJ Nerd42. All lyrics are from Deltron 3030, except that track 8 samples the chorus from Ronan Keating’s “Time After Time” and track 10 samples Nickelodeon cartoons.

Most of the instrumentals came from Lost Perception or The Specialist. The instrumental on track 9 is from DJ Green Lantern, Prinz and Kool G Rap – “We G’z” from Alive on Arrival, Team Invasion 2006. The instrumental of track 1 was produced by DJ Nerd42 by sampling the album, “Distant Worlds; Music from Final Fantasy.”

Electric Children – Insomniac

Sometimes our weakness can be an asset. Chipmusician Electric Children has been suffering from sleepless nights as of late, so it should come as no surprise that his latest released is titled Insomniac. It’s a 26 minute 1xLSDj mix. For those not attuned to the chiptuner’s lingo, that means this entire mix was played from a single Nintendo Gameboy.

This is what it means to be a Video Game DJ, in my eyes. For those of you who have seen me live you know I don’t go anywhere without my red macbook pro and kaoss pad. I really admire an artist who can create music like this from limited hardware. After all, that’s the art of the Chiptune, isn’t it?
